A Texas mother of five spent her final moments desperately trying to defend herself during a brutal daytime attack that ultimately claimed her life. According to one of her closest friends, Caroline “Caro” Peña fought courageously against three alleged attackers despite being seriously wounded.

Authorities have charged sisters Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, and Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19, along with their friend Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, with murder in connection with Peña’s death. The three suspects are being held on a combined bail of $15 million after investigators alleged that they repeatedly stabbed the 32-year-old victim in Del Rio, Texas, at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday.
