The plot was uncovered in 2023. Security guard Gavin Plumb was sentenced to life in prison in July 2024 with a minimum term of 16 years. Prosecutors described the impact on Holly as “catastrophic.” She gave a victim impact statement, which remains private, but the words she used in court and in interviews painted a harrowing picture. The threat came at a time when she was in her forties, just as she believed her life was finally falling into place.

Holly has three children with husband Dan Baldwin. She said: “When I first got into my forties I was like, ‘This is going to be the decade of me having my life sorted’ and it was like, ‘Oh no, hang on. Life has a different plan for me’.” She learned that you never know where life will take you. “You should just go along with it and see what happens.”

After the plot was exposed, Holly quit ITV’s This Morning. For 14 years she had been the face of the show alongside Phillip Schofield. When Schofield left suddenly, she said she needed time out. “If I’m being really honest, everybody knows what happened to me… and I just needed time out.” She decided to park everything and spend time with family and friends to see how she felt. “But there was a time when I wasn’t sure whether that would ever be a thing.” It certainly wasn’t a given that she would step back in front of the camera again.

The last two years have been a deliberate “reset.” Holly has taken on very few projects. In the months before Plumb was convicted, she filmed Netflix’s Celebrity Bear Hunt in Costa Rica. The show aired in February 2025 but didn’t get a second series. She also appeared on ITV’s reboot of You Bet! with Stephen Mulhern, though she didn’t return for the second series.

She used that time to explore what direction she wanted next. “I was thinking, ‘When the time is right, what could I do next? What direction do I want to go in?’ At the time I didn’t know, genuinely.” Different ideas came along but none felt right. She learned to listen to herself instead of worrying about what others expected. “You always have this thing where people look at you like, ‘What are you doing now?’ and it’s sort of curbing other people’s expectations. But I just thought, ‘No, I really need to listen to myself and just pause everything’.”

When she finally felt ready, she and husband Dan turned to YouTube. They recognised how quickly their children — aged 11, 15 and 17 — were consuming media differently from older generations. Digital streaming had already overtaken traditional TV in viewership. Holly points to the success of Gary Lineker and Zane Lowe who left TV for streaming and thrived.

She approached the new project with nerves. The channel, called Together, is produced by Dan’s company Hungry Bear. The format is lifestyle-focused — cookery, fashion, beauty and real-life stories — but it feels different from This Morning. It launches on 28 July with two episodes every week. The set is a purpose-built studio that looks like an open-plan apartment rather than a studio. Holly walks from lounge to kitchen, trying on clothes, sampling make-up or cooking. She wanted it to feel like home — “the inside of my head.”

Her celebrity friends will appear: Emma Bunton, Nicole Appleton, Joanne McNally and Stanley Tucci. She insists the show will have its own tone. “I still don’t know… but we’ll find out.” She’s being braver than she was before, but she feels good now. “I wouldn’t be doing this if I wasn’t. This is a really good sign that I feel ready.”

The kidnap, rape and murder plot tested her to the limit. The consequences were catastrophic, yet she refused to let it define her forever. She chose to pause, listen to her heart, and rebuild on her own terms. Now she is stepping back into the light — not as the same presenter, but as someone who has survived a nightmare and come out stronger.
