For months, the students at Ridgewood High whispered about Lina Voss.

The 15-year-old girl had always been quiet and artistic. But one autumn morning, she arrived at school wearing large, pointed prosthetic ears strapped to her head. By lunch, she had dropped to her hands and knees in the hallway, barking loudly at anyone who walked past. Not playful yips — deep, guttural, soulless sounds that echoed off the lockers and made teachers freeze in place.

“It’s just a phase,” her parents, Johan and Mathilda Voss, told the school counselor with tight smiles. “Teenage rebellion. She’ll grow out of it.”

They were wrong.

Lina didn’t grow out of it. She sank deeper.

She stopped responding to her own name. If anyone called her “Lina,” she would tilt her head unnaturally and bare her teeth. In class, she refused to sit at desks, choosing instead to curl up on the floor beneath them. She ate her lunch from a bowl placed on the ground. The fake ears became permanent — she even slept in them.

Her parents kept insisting it was harmless. Johan, a respected accountant, and Mathilda, a part-time yoga instructor, told concerned neighbors that their daughter was “exploring her identity” and that modern parenting meant giving children space to express themselves.

They never told anyone about the growling they heard at night from her bedroom. They never mentioned how she had started digging holes in the backyard and sleeping in them. They never admitted that she had stopped speaking entirely — only communicating in whines, barks, and low, threatening rumbles.

Then came the night everything shattered.

At 2:43 AM, every member of Lina’s close friend group received the same WhatsApp message from her phone. No text. Just a series of photos.

The first image showed Lina in her basement, completely naked except for the prosthetic ears. She was on all fours, back arched unnaturally, eyes wide and vacant. Blood was smeared across her face and chest.

The second photo was closer. She had used a sharp tool to carve deep gashes into her own scalp around the fake ears, trying to make them “real.” Blood ran down her neck in thick streams.

The final photo was the worst.

Lina stared directly into the camera with a horrifying, joyful expression. In her mouth was a piece of raw meat. Behind her, on the basement wall, she had written in her own blood:

“I’m not your daughter anymore. I’m finally free.”

Screams erupted in multiple households as parents woke up to their children crying in terror.

When police arrived at the Voss residence, the house was eerily silent. Johan and Mathilda were sitting at the kitchen table in their pajamas, drinking coffee as if it were a normal morning. Their faces were pale and strangely calm.

“Where is your daughter?” an officer demanded.

Mathilda smiled weakly. “She’s not our daughter anymore. She made her choice.”

The basement door had been locked from the inside. When they broke it down, the smell hit them first — coppery blood mixed with something foul and animalistic.

Lina was gone.

What remained was a scene that would give veteran officers nightmares for years. The walls were covered in frantic scratch marks and paw prints drawn in blood. In the center of the floor was a large pool of blood with drag marks leading to a small basement window that had been smashed open from inside.

They never found her body.

But two days later, hikers discovered something even more disturbing in the woods behind the Voss house: a makeshift den lined with Lina’s clothes, torn to shreds. Inside were the bloody prosthetic ears and a single human tooth.

To this day, people in the town still report hearing it on quiet nights — a girl’s voice mixed with deep, inhuman barking coming from the forest.

Johan and Mathilda moved away shortly after the incident. Before leaving, Johan told a neighbor in a hollow voice:

“We thought if we ignored it, she would come back to us. But she didn’t want to be human anymore. She wanted to be something else entirely.”

The horrifying truth was that Lina hadn’t just been pretending.

She had successfully abandoned her humanity.

And whatever she became… it was still out there.
