A young McDonald’s manager remains hospitalized with severe burns after a shocking workplace attack that authorities say unfolded in seconds when a fellow employee allegedly hurled hot cooking oil directly at him during the final moments of his shift.

Jacob Smith, 20, is recovering in intensive care after suffering second-degree burns across significant portions of his body in what police describe as a violent assault inside a Northern California McDonald’s restaurant.

The incident occurred on the evening of June 6, turning what should have been an ordinary workday into a life-altering nightmare.

According to investigators, Smith was working as a shift manager when a co-worker allegedly attacked him without warning. The suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Jalani Bluett, reportedly fled the restaurant before officers arrived.

Yuba City Police Lt. Michael Bullard said officers found the victim walking and talking despite suffering obvious burn injuries.
