A California community is demanding accountability after newly released bodycam footage appeared to show a female police officer repeatedly striking a teenage student during a violent arrest at a high school campus — a confrontation that has now sparked outrage, protests and renewed scrutiny over the officer’s past use-of-force incidents.

Officer Bianca Camacho of the Fairfield Police Department has been administratively reassigned after the disturbing footage circulated online and ignited public backlash throughout Fairfield, California. The incident involved 16-year-old Maurice Williams, a student at Fairfield High School, and unfolded on May 20 after officers responded to reports of a fight on campus.

Now, as community members call for Camacho’s resignation and an independent investigation moves forward, the confrontation is becoming the center of a growing debate over police conduct in schools and the treatment of minors during arrests.

The bodycam video released by police shows a chaotic scene developing on campus after several students reportedly became involved in a physical altercation. According to the Fairfield Police Department, school resource officer James Lewis attempted to intervene when tensions escalated among students.

Authorities said Lewis believed one student may have been reaching into a backpack for a possible weapon, prompting officers to confiscate two bags later found to contain screwdrivers.

As officers worked to control the situation, the footage shows multiple students moving toward Lewis, creating confusion and panic in the area. Camacho then entered the confrontation and focused on restraining Williams.

Video from the encounter appears to show Camacho pinning the teenager to the ground while grabbing his hair and striking him multiple times across the face with an open hand. During the struggle, she repeatedly shouted, “Give me your f***ing hands,” while attempting to pull his arms behind his back.

At one point in the footage, Officer Lewis can be heard telling her, “Stop, stop, stop,” as Williams remained face-down on the pavement.

Moments later, the two officers were finally able to place the teenager in handcuffs.

The video quickly spread across social media platforms, where many viewers expressed shock at the level of force used against the student.

Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall later defended parts of the officers’ response while acknowledging the public concern surrounding the footage.

“I want to clarify that the student was not handcuffed during the incident,” Marshall said in a statement released after the video emerged.

“The officer delivered several strikes to gain compliance and gain access to his hands so he could be handcuffed. Once the assisting officer was able to reposition, both officers were able to place the young man into handcuffs.”

Police claimed Williams resisted arrest and covered his face while officers attempted to secure him. According to the department, Camacho used what they described as “distraction strikes” after repeated efforts to pull his arms behind his back were unsuccessful.

“The officer tried again to pull his arm behind his back but was still not able to overcome his resistance,” the department said. “The officer applied additional distraction strikes, which resulted in the second student complying and placing his hands behind his back.”

Still, the explanation has done little to calm outrage in the community.

At a press conference held after the footage surfaced online, Williams’ family said the teenager has suffered ongoing headaches and dizzy spells since the confrontation.

Relatives described the arrest as traumatic and unnecessary, arguing that the teenager was already subdued when Camacho continued striking him.

Community members echoed those concerns online, where calls for Camacho to be terminated intensified almost immediately.

“It’s disgusting how she was just verbally and physically assaulting a minor,” one commenter wrote beneath the released police footage.

“He is 16, fire her!” another person posted.

“Fire her IMMEDIATELY,” another demanded.

The backlash only intensified after reports resurfaced involving another use-of-force complaint tied to Camacho from the previous year.

In that earlier incident, 18-year-old Myah Hamilton accused Camacho of violently dragging her from her vehicle during a traffic stop. Cellphone footage from the encounter reportedly showed Camacho pulling Hamilton’s arm while another officer assisted in removing her from the car.

“Please, don’t rip me out,” Hamilton could be heard saying in the video.

“Can you stop? Can you stop, please?” she pleaded as officers forcibly removed her from the vehicle.

Hamilton later spoke publicly after Williams’ arrest video went viral, saying she immediately recognized similarities between the two incidents.

“The same thing that happened to that poor boy was pretty much what happened to me,” Hamilton said.

“It’s not okay, that should have never happened.”

Hamilton also criticized the department for allowing Camacho to remain on duty after her own case became public.

“She should have never been able to continue to be a police officer,” Hamilton said. “They call you guys peace officers to bring peace, not to sit there and bring commotion and cause more problems than there already was.”

Her case reportedly remains pending.

Meanwhile, Chief Marshall announced that Camacho has now been administratively reassigned while an independent investigation reviews the incident involving Williams.

“We will carefully evaluate the totality of the investigation’s findings, for discipline, additional training, opportunities for improvements, or policy changes within the department,” Marshall said.

The chief also said the police department plans to work alongside the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District and local leaders to address broader concerns about violence and tensions on campus.

“Additionally, we are working alongside the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District and community leaders to organize a community meeting focused on both this incident and the broader issue of the climate and culture on our high school campuses,” Marshall added.

The Fairfield Police Department emphasized that the school fight itself involved multiple students and escalating tensions before officers intervened.

According to police, one student had already been escorted away when Lewis returned to deal with Williams and another teenager. Authorities claim the situation rapidly deteriorated as students crowded around the officers.

Campus monitor Will Bible later stated that Officer Lewis had been temporarily filling in for the school’s normal resource officer, who was away on paternity leave.

Bible said Williams and another student had initially been involved in a verbal dispute before the confrontation escalated.

The department also stated that after the first detained student returned to the scene, he too was arrested.

Still, for many residents, the focus remains squarely on the force shown in the bodycam footage.

Parents, activists and students have continued demanding transparency from the department and accountability for Camacho’s actions.

The controversy has also reignited larger national conversations surrounding police presence in schools and how officers handle confrontations involving teenagers.

Critics argue that aggressive arrests inside educational settings can traumatize students and escalate already tense situations, while supporters of school resource officers insist police must be able to respond quickly when violence breaks out.

In Fairfield, emotions remain high as the investigation continues.

The Fairfield Police Department released a statement saying it remains committed to transparency surrounding the case.

“The department is aware of a video circulating online of a Fairfield Police Officer using force against a student in this incident,” the statement read.

“The department is committed to transparency in this incident. Body camera videos from two officers have been released to provide context to the situation.”

But for many residents, the footage itself was all the context they needed.

As outrage continues spreading online and community pressure mounts, the future of Officer Bianca Camacho’s career remains uncertain while investigators determine whether her actions violated department policy — or crossed a line many viewers believe should never have been crossed in the first place.
