A 25-year-old bus driver was shot dead outside a London pub while reportedly dropping off his girlfriend, leaving his family and friends devastated as detectives investigate what witnesses described as a possible case of mistaken identity.

Police and paramedics were called to the Landor pub on Landor Road in Clapham shortly before 10pm on Monday, August 10, following reports of gunfire.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the young man suffering from gunshot wounds outside the pub.

Despite paramedics reaching the scene within around three minutes, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 22-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of murder after arriving at hospital with a gunshot wound.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and police have not confirmed a motive.

However, people who knew the victim said he may have been caught up in an attack intended for someone else.

One witness claimed the shooting was a case of mistaken identity, while another person reportedly heard someone believed to be a relative of the victim shouting, “They got the wrong boy.”

Another resident recalled hearing what they believed were several gunshots before seeing someone run from the area.

The witness said the person shouted for police to be called.

They also reported seeing a moped and a white car leave the area before officers arrived.

Outside the pub, people could reportedly be heard screaming and crying in the aftermath of the shooting.

The scene remained cordoned off into Tuesday as detectives and forensic officers worked to establish exactly what happened.

A forensic tent was erected close to the road, while police vehicles and tape restricted access to parts of Landor Road and nearby Willington Road.

Bouquets of flowers were later placed near the entrance to the pub, alongside a candle left in memory of the victim.

Staff at The Landor are understood to have helped the injured man following the shooting before emergency services took over.

The response involved a London Ambulance Service trauma team, an incident response officer and paramedics travelling in fast-response vehicles.

A trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance was also sent to the scene.

The emergency response reflected the seriousness of the injuries, but despite efforts to save the victim, he died at the location.

Police have been examining the circumstances before, during and after the shooting.

Forensic investigators were reportedly examining an Audi believed to have been driven by the victim. The vehicle was seen with a smashed driver’s-side window, although investigators have not publicly confirmed how the damage occurred or whether it was directly connected to the shooting.

Detectives are also expected to review CCTV footage from the pub and surrounding streets, while officers continue speaking with witnesses who may have seen vehicles or people leaving the area.

“We are asking anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to please contact us as soon as possible and support the ongoing investigation,” she added.

The London Ambulance Service confirmed that it had been called at 9.59pm on Monday following reports of a shooting on Landor Road.
