‘What are the odds’ – F1 driver duo stun fans as they ditch lavish private jet for easyJet flight after Belgian GP
FORMULA ONE fans were left stunned after two drivers swapped the lavish luxury of a private jet for a budget easyJet flight after the Belgian Grand Prix.
Kimi Antonelli took the chequered flag at Spa-Francorchamps to extend his lead in the drivers’ championship, while Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen came in second and third to complete the podium.
And while the result of the race probably wasn’t a huge surprise to F1 fans this season given the dominance of Mercedes so far, the transport Racing Bulls duo Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad took was.
Kiwi driver Lawson shared a photo of himself and British rookie Lindblad sat next to one another on a plane.
But while many of their rivals including Lewis Hamilton, Verstappen, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, George Russell, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll and Pierre Gasly all took private jets, the duo took a budget easyJet flight instead.
That was revealed as Lawson captioned the picture: “Shoutout easyJet”.
The duo are on the lower end of the F1 salary list, but still reportedly earn a handsome sum.
Lawson, 24, is estimated to pocket a salary of around £2.24million, while 18-year-old Lindblad is said to earn somewhere around £750,000.
And with salaries like that, a wallet-friendly easyJet flight is far removed from the usual lavish life of an F1 star.
It was that reason fans were flabbergasted with the sight of them, with one saying: “Oh man, what are the odds of meeting two F1 drivers on a commercial flight.”
A second said: “Imagine walking back to your seat in 31E and you pass these two guys.”
A third added: “I would be fighting my inner fan girl so bad to not bother them.”
Another said: “Men of the people I love this.”
Both Lawson and Lindblad have enjoyed strong seasons and sit 10th and 11th in the drivers standings, respectively.
Lawson missed out on a points finish in Belgium while Lindblad scored two points after coming ninth.
Lindblad told Sky Sports of his growing confidence as the season approaches the halfway mark: “I think every weekend, I’m getting more comfortable, more competitive.
“For sure this has been a complete one.
“I’d probably say the last weekend that was so complete was Canada, where unfortunately I wasn’t able to do the race.

According to F1 photographer and content creator Kym Illman, seven-time world champion Hamilton had taken to Spa in an Embraer Legacy 500, which costs around £9m.
Elsewhere, Ferrari team-mate Leclerc was seen flying in a £9.7m Bombardier Challenger 605, while Alonso took a Dassault Falcon 2000 costing just shy of £15m.
