FBI raid home of teacher who ‘stormed Trump dinner’ as Secret Service blast ‘coward trying to create national tragedy’
FBI agents have raided the home of a teacher who allegedly stormed President Donald Trump’s White House dinner as the Secret Service blasts him as a “coward”.
Cole Tomas Allen, 31, is facing firearms and assault charges after he was arrested in Washington over the terrifying shooting.
Overnight, heavily armed agents swarmed a home in Torrance, California, linked to Allen.
It comes as…
- The suspected shooter Cole Tomas Allen has been arrested
- FBI raid California home of suspected gunman
- The Sun’s Harry Cole reveals how he was just feet away from the chaos
- Trump posted chilling footage of the “gunman” charging
- Dramatic video shows how Melania bravely alerted Trump
- The King’s security for his US visit “should be urgently reviewed”
Police tape blocked off a section of the quiet street and a spotlight was shone on the home.
Photos from the scene show armoured vehicles and dozens of security officers in full tactical gear.
A next door neighbour who wished to remain anonymous told CNN he wasn’t sure if Allen lived at the property because they never saw him around much.
However, the neighbour said he saw Allen “a couple of days ago”.
The neighbour added that Allen’s father was friendly and they spoke frequently.
Torrance, a city of about 147,000 people is about 18 miles south of Los Angeles.
City mayor George Chen said: “We are aware of reports identifying the suspect as a resident of Torrance. While that connection is deeply troubling, one individual’s actions do not define our city.”
It comes as Deputy Director of the Secret Service Matthew Quinn slammed the suspected shooter as a “coward”.
He said: “Tonight, a coward attempted to create a national tragedy.
“He underestimated the protective capabilities of the U.S. Secret Service, and was stopped at first contact.
“The strength of our layered security posture was evident, with a myriad of countermeasures still ahead.
“Grateful for the brave men and women of the Secret Service and our valued Law Enforcement partners.”
A LinkedIn profile matching Allen’s name and photo revealed the alleged gunman was once awarded “teacher of the month”.
The website lists Allen as a part-time teacher at C2 Education – a test prep and tutoring company.
He writes he is a “mechanical engineer and computer scientist by degree, independent game developer by experience, teacher by birth.”
According to the profile, Allen graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
He also received a master’s degree in computer science from California State University-Dominguez Hills last year.
Allen is self-described as a video game developer on the profile, appearing to have published an indie game called Bohrdom for sale on the Steam gaming platform for $1.99.
A former high school volleyball teammate told NBC News Allen was a “borderline genius” and “super stable”.
Trump posted a chilling video to Truth Social appearing to show a man – later identified by law enforcement as Allen – charging the security at the prestigious event at the Washington Hilton.
Police said the suspect was staying at the hotel and when he was apprehended he was was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives.
Grainy black and white CCTV footage shows staff standing outside the dining room where the prestigious event was taking place.
One staffer in a suit and tie can be seen leaning on a bench crossing his legs, oblivious to the chaos about to unfold.
A man then suddenly enters the frame, sprinting at full speed and charging through the security cordon.
Two Secret Service agents can then be seen pulling out their guns, taking aim and shooting in the direction of the “would-be assassin”.
A swarm of officers wielding guns then flood the frame.
More video from the venue shows the moment Melania Trump’s face froze in horror as gunshots rang out.
The president and his wife sat at the dais at the front of the Washington Hilton having a chat with a staffer.
Trump recalled how his wife alerted him to the sound of gunshots in a briefing to the press just an hour later.
“The fact that we were sitting next to each other, the First Lady on my right, and I heard a noise,” Trump said.
The US president added that at first he thought it was a tray being dropped on the floor by a staff member.
Melania was the first to raise the alarm that the sound could be gunfire, Trump added.
The First Lady told her husband about the “bad noise”, as Trump added: “it was a rather traumatic experience for her”.
