Lewis Hamilton’s touching four-word tribute to girlfriend Kim Kardashian after shock death in the family
LEWIS HAMILTON shared a touching message to girlfriend Kim Kardashian following the death of her grandmother.
The seven-time Formula One world champion posted to Instagram after Kim’s grandmother, Mary Jo “MJ” Campbell, passed away at 91 years old.
The post featured a series of heartwarming pictures of Hamilton with his and Kim’s family members and the caption: “Hold your people close.”
One of the pictures shows Hamilton and Kim staring lovingly at each other on a boat as well as a video of them jumping into the water.
Later the couple appeared in another picture where he had his arm over her shoulder as they walked along a country road.
The pair were on holiday at Kim’s stunning lake house in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with Khloe Kardashian and her two children True and Tatum.
Kim, 45, also posted snaps of the holiday to Instagram, featuring all four of her kids, North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, eight, and Psalm, seven.
The American media personality also included an adorable selfie, showing her and Hamilton.
She captioned the post: “Summers at the lake with my favourite people.”
The trip must have been soon after the British Grand Prix weekend in Silverstone – where Hamilton finished third behind a Safety Car in the main race – during Fourth of July.
The group celebrated the occasion with sparklers, cartwheels, and red, white, and blue decorations.
In May, Kim made her first public appearance in the paddock in Monaco since her relationship with Hamilton was revealed by The Sun in February.
She watched from the balcony above the Ferrari garage with sister Khloe during Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s race.
Sir Lewis even blew a kiss to her from the podium as she filmed him while dressed in a neutral-coloured dress and sunnies.

The post, captioned “Lake Life”, included images of Kim posing with Khloe Kardashian on a boat, Kendall Jenner pouring tequila into her mouth while she held on to a paddleboard in the lake, Kim wakeboarding, and spending time with her children.
Many followers criticised the timing of the post and said it appeared tone-deaf in light of the death in Kim’s family. As the reaction grew, Kim replied in the comments, explaining that the post had been scheduled before her grandmother died.
“This post was scheduled a few days ago before we lost MJ, so its timing came right alongside her passing,” she wrote, adding, “I’ve been by my mom and grandma’s side this past week, and my heart is completely with my family right now. We love and miss her so deeply, and in the days ahead, we’ll be focusing on celebrating her beautiful life.”
Family tributes for MJ
Kim later shared a tribute to her grandmother on Instagram alongside photographs of them over the years. In that post, she called MJ “my best friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin” and said her grandmother had taught the family the importance of family. Kim also wrote that MJ had shown her what it meant to be a hardworking businesswoman.
Kris announced her mother’s death on Instagram earlier on Thursday and called her “the heart of our family”. She said there were no words to capture what her mother had meant to her or the pain of losing her. Kris wrote that MJ had taught the family to love fiercely, be kind, show up for the people they love and never take a single moment together for granted.

Hours after the family shared their tributes, Lewis Hamilton also posted a series of personal photos and videos from time spent with Kim during a lakeside break. Alongside the images, the Formula 1 champion wrote, “hold your people close”. His post included a clip of Kim hugging him and pulling him into the water, as well as a photograph of the two walking arm in arm.
All about her grandmother
Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon made regular appearances on the family’s reality shows, Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Kardashians, where she was often seen as a calm and comforting presence. She founded the San Diego children’s boutique Shannon & Co. She was married to Kris Jenner’s father, Robert Houghton, before they divorced when Kris was seven. She later married Harry Shannon and was with him for 40 years until he died in a car crash in 2003.
Along with Kris Jenner, MJ was also the mother of Karen Houghton, who died of cardiac arrest in March 2024 at the age of 65.
