Chilling new details emerge after home invader seen in terrifying viral doorbell video makes first court appearance
CHILLING new details have emerged about a home invader who terrorised a mum and daughter in a viral doorbell video.
Jason Thomas Nichols, 30, is accused of breaking into a California home after threatening to kill a pregnant mum and her son, 5, inside.
In the shocking footage, the man tries to kick down the front door of a Bay area home while screaming to be let inside.
Making his first appearance in court on Wednesday, Nichols wore a striped jail jumpsuit and was shackled at the waist.
He reportedly smiled and rolled his eyes through some of the proceedings while also thanking reporters for taking his photo.
Nichols was charged with four felonies, including burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and making criminal threats.
A brave witness also came forward with new allegations about an encounter with Nichols and a child two days before the home invasion.
Nichols now faces a fifth charge of annoying or molesting a child under 18.
The footage of a creep breaking into the Fairfield home went viral online earlier this week.
The conversation begins innocently, as a man in a long black coat, flip flops and glasses asks the owner to “please” open the door.
The man, later identified by authorities as Jason Nichols, 30, explains: “I just want to make sure everything is OK. I just figured I would check on something.”
A woman with her child are inside the house at the time but she is too terrified to open the door.
Her husband, who isn’t at home, tries to persuade Nichols to go away via the doorcam microphone.
The owner replies: “I don’t know what you want man, get out of my house.”
That reply infuriates Nichols, who kicked the front door and started screaming in fury.
“Open this f***ing door. Where is your daughter man? Who’s in there with you. Open the door or I’m breaking it f***ing down. Is everybody in this house OK?” he rages.
The homeowner can be heard begging him to leave.
Nichols then asks in a menacing tone: “Open the door. This is my neighbourhood. Now…. Or I’ll f***ing end you. Do you understand me?”
He then aggressively rips off the doorbell while pounding the door.
During the ordeal, Nichols identifies himself as Harry Dresden from the popular Jim Butcher Dresden File novels about a private investigator/wizard.
Nichols then reportedly found a way inside the home by slipping through a sliding glass door.
Another security camera inside the house caught Nichols striding through the house, opening cupboards and doors looking for the wife and child.
The homeowner raced back to his home armed with a shovel to protect his wife and child.
He and Nichols reportedly exchanged blows causing each other head injuries, police said.
Fairfield police arrived just minutes later and found Nichols outside.
He was taken to a nearby hospital before being booked into jail on multiple felony charges tied to the brazen break-in attempt.
