Patrick Clancy described 2022 as “a good summer” when he testified in Plymouth Superior Court in Massachusetts on July 29. At the time, Patrick and his wife, Lindsay, were raising two young children, Cora and Dawson, and had recently welcomed their third child, Callan, in May. The family spent much of that summer together, including trips to Cape Cod and time at their home in Duxbury, a suburban community about 20 miles south of Boston.
The family’s circumstances began to change later that year. According to Patrick’s testimony, Lindsay’s mental health declined significantly during the fall. The couple had previously built a busy family life around work, parenting and their home, but increasing difficulties placed new pressure on the household.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(749x0:751x2):format(webp)/lindsay-clancy-children-080526-99640c7509024a02aa72d8e15d099900.jpg)
On Jan. 24, 2023, Patrick returned home and discovered that Lindsay had seriously harmed their three children before attempting to end her own life. The children, Cora, Dawson and Callan, all died as a result of the incident.
In the days that followed, Patrick released a statement that reflected the complicated emotions he was experiencing. Rather than focusing only on anger, he asked people to show compassion toward Lindsay and remembered her as a loving mother and wife. He described his family as the most important part of his life and said he had taken great pride in being Lindsay’s husband and the father of their three children.
Patrick also remembered Lindsay as someone who had shown kindness and care to other people. Even after the devastating events, he expressed hope that she would eventually find peace.
Patrick’s Early Life and Family
Patrick grew up with two sisters in Scituate, a coastal Massachusetts town located roughly 10 miles north of Duxbury. He developed a strong interest in sailing while growing up and later chose to remain relatively close to home for college. He attended Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island.
After graduating, Patrick was introduced to Lindsay Musgrove through his sister and cousin. Lindsay was a nurse who had recently relocated from Connecticut to Boston. The relationship eventually became a marriage and a family.
On New Year’s Eve in 2015, Patrick proposed to Lindsay at the location where they had gone on their first date. The couple married in December 2016 near Lindsay’s childhood home.
Their first child, Cora, was born on Christmas Eve 2017. Dawson arrived approximately two years later. While Lindsay was expecting Dawson, the couple purchased their home in Duxbury.
At the time, Lindsay worked as a labor and delivery nurse, while Patrick built a career in technology sales. His job allowed him to work partly from home, but it also required frequent business travel. His responsibilities often took him away from Massachusetts for several days at a time.
One example occurred in November 2022. Patrick traveled to New York City for two days before returning home on Nov. 3. The following day, he left again, this time for a four-day trip to San Francisco. He brought Cora with him on that trip.
Patrick’s travel schedule later became a subject of public discussion, particularly because Lindsay had been experiencing difficulties with her mental health. Some people questioned whether Patrick should have left her alone with the children. During his testimony, however, Patrick said that nothing concerning happened while he was away.

Following the deaths of the children, Patrick and Lindsay had very little communication. Patrick later told The New Yorker that Lindsay first contacted him shortly before her arraignment in February 2023. She left him a voicemail expressing her love for him.
The two later spoke briefly by telephone. During that conversation, Lindsay reportedly described experiencing a voice that instructed her to harm the children and suggested that she believed she had reached a final opportunity to act. Patrick said that the person he heard during that conversation did not sound like the woman he had known as his wife.
Several months later, Patrick contacted Lindsay at Tewksbury Hospital, where she had remained since January 2023. He called her on her 33rd birthday.
By that point, Patrick had already begun making significant changes in his own life.
Building a New Life
In the period following the tragedy, Patrick traveled alone to several destinations in Latin America and Europe. He eventually placed the Duxbury family home on the market and moved to New York City.
There, he rented an apartment on the Upper East Side and accepted a new position as a business applications sales executive at Microsoft. He also began divorce proceedings and eventually returned to dating.
By February 2024, Patrick was in a relationship with Dr. Rachel Danis, a reproductive specialist working in Brooklyn. According to a friend of the couple, Danis moved into Patrick’s apartment in 2025.
In April 2026, Patrick and Danis married in Central Park. The ceremony was described as a small gathering attended by close friends and relatives.
Danis has also spoken publicly about her own experiences with fertility and reproductive health. In a 2024 appearance on the Fertility Forward podcast, she discussed the pressures many women experience while trying to balance professional ambitions, personal development and questions surrounding fertility.
Honoring the Children
Patrick has continued to keep the memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan central to his life. In 2024, he and his sisters, Erin and Laura, established the Heard Foundation in memory of the children.
The organization focuses on improving mental-health support for parents during pregnancy and the period surrounding childbirth. Its broader goal is to encourage greater compassion and connection while helping families receive appropriate support during difficult periods.
One of the foundation’s early community projects took place in Duxbury in June 2025, when Patrick returned to the area to help create a playground close to his former home. Danis joined him, along with volunteers who helped construct the facility.
The finished playground included a tribute to Cora, Dawson and Callan. Their names were displayed at the entrance, along with a phrase associated with Cora’s nightly routine with her father: “Thank you for a beautiful day in the neighborhood.”
The project provided Patrick with an opportunity to honor his children through something intended to bring happiness and connection to other families.
Returning to Court
In July 2026, Patrick returned to Massachusetts to testify at Lindsay’s trial in Plymouth Superior Court. The courtroom appearance marked one of the most difficult public moments in the years since the deaths of his children.
Although Patrick had been listed as a defense witness, prosecutors called him first. He testified over two days and remained composed for much of the proceedings, though his emotions became visible when he was asked to remember his children.
Patrick described Cora as a child who enjoyed princesses and had many friends. He said she naturally cared about other people and enjoyed looking after them.
He remembered Dawson as a boy who loved firefighters, trucks and the television program Paw Patrol. When speaking about Callan, the youngest child, Patrick described him simply as a cheerful baby.
The testimony was especially emotional because Lindsay was present in the courtroom. She now uses a wheelchair as a result of injuries sustained after the 2023 incident.
During Patrick’s testimony, Lindsay became visibly emotional. The former couple did not exchange eye contact. After completing his second day of testimony, Patrick left the courtroom without turning toward her.
His life since 2023 has therefore involved two very different paths: grieving the loss of his three children while also attempting to create a new future. Through his work, charitable efforts and personal relationships, he has sought to preserve the memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan while supporting broader conversations about parental mental health.
For Patrick, the years since the tragedy have not erased the family life he once had. Instead, he has carried memories of his children into a new chapter, using their names and legacy as a reason to support other families and encourage greater awareness of the challenges surrounding mental health during the perinatal period.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(999x365:1001x367):format(webp)/patrick-clancy-kids-072726-2b96b6b7489c4a3d992981cedd90bf1d.jpg)
