Austin police have released new details, including a mugshot of one of three juvenile suspects, in what investigators are calling a violent 28-hour crime spree that stretched across the city and left multiple victims injured, several vehicles stolen, and at least a dozen separate shooting scenes under active investigation.

The primary suspect, identified as 17-year-old Cristian Fajardo Mondragon, was arrested Sunday alongside two other juveniles, aged 15 and 16, in connection with what police described as 12 separate shooting incidents across Austin, Texas.

Authorities say the group is believed to have carried out a coordinated series of violent acts beginning Saturday afternoon and continuing into Sunday, with shootings reported at homes, apartment complexes, and even fire stations.

Austin Police Department officials confirmed that four people were injured during the alleged spree, while multiple vehicles were stolen and used in what investigators described as a rapidly evolving pattern of violence that spread across the city.

Police said the suspects were taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit in nearby Manor, Texas, following a traffic stop involving a white Kia sedan believed to be linked to several of the shootings.

Because of Texas juvenile privacy laws, the names of the two younger suspects have not been publicly released.

Investigators have since pieced together a detailed timeline of the alleged incidents, beginning Saturday morning, May 16, 2026.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a stolen firearm from a local business. Surveillance footage reviewed shortly after showed a vehicle believed to be driven by the suspects had also been stolen earlier that day.

By 3:58 p.m., police say the first shooting occurred at a trailer residence. Although no injuries were reported, investigators believe this marked the beginning of the violent escalation.

Just over 30 minutes later, at 4:30 p.m., another shooting was reported at the Whisper Hollow apartment complex, where multiple vehicles and an occupied apartment were struck by gunfire. Witness descriptions and surveillance footage suggested the same group was responsible.

At 6:08 p.m., a third shooting was reported when witnesses saw a suspect wearing a black hoodie exit a black sedan and fire into a third-floor apartment unit.

By 7:00 p.m., police say the suspects stole a Hyundai Elantra from a Motel 6 parking lot, further expanding the number of stolen vehicles linked to the spree.

At 8:49 p.m., authorities reported a particularly alarming incident when shots were fired into an active Austin Fire Department station while firefighters were inside. No injuries were reported, but officials described the act as highly dangerous given the presence of emergency personnel.

Only six minutes later, at 8:55 p.m., another shooting occurred when a vehicle matching suspect descriptions fired into an occupied car, striking the windshield. One victim was injured by shattered glass.

The violence continued into early Sunday morning. At 3:50 a.m., investigators say the suspects stole another vehicle, later abandoning a damaged car near East Stassney Lane.

By 8:46 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, a victim was found shot in the back and stomach near Janes Ranch Road. Police believe the same group was responsible, based on witness descriptions.

At 10:46 a.m., another shooting was reported at an Austin Fire Department station, followed by the theft of a white Kia Optima approximately three hours later.

The most severe escalation came early Sunday afternoon. At 1:44 p.m., authorities say two victims were shot in a drive-by shooting involving the stolen Kia Optima, followed by two additional shootings reported within the next 20 minutes.

At 2:29 p.m., surveillance footage captured a white Kia sedan approaching a victim before the individual collapsed with a gunshot wound and was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The spree ended at approximately 3:23 p.m. when officers with the Manor Police Department spotted the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. Police say the suspects fled, abandoning the car and running on foot before being captured shortly afterward.

One suspect was detained immediately, while the other two were located and taken into custody following a brief search of the surrounding area.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis described the investigation as “complex and rapidly evolving,” citing the number of crime scenes, stolen vehicles, and seemingly random acts of violence scattered across the city.

“This case involves an extraordinary number of incidents across a short period of time,” Davis said. “The coordination required to investigate each scene is significant.”

Authorities said the spree resulted in four confirmed injuries, multiple stolen vehicles, and widespread panic across affected neighborhoods. Police also confirmed that at least five vehicles were stolen during the course of the incidents, some of which were used in subsequent shootings.

Investigators say they are still working to determine the motive behind the alleged attacks. At this stage, police believe the shootings may have been a combination of targeted and random acts.

“At this time, investigators believe the incidents were a mix of random and targeted shootings,” APD said in a statement. “Some victims were known to the suspects, while other incidents appeared to occur without any known connection.”

That uncertainty has complicated the investigation, as detectives work to determine how the suspects selected locations and victims across such a wide geographic area.

Officials are now reviewing surveillance footage, ballistic evidence, and recovered stolen vehicles in an effort to establish a clearer sequence of events and potential connections between each incident.

The juveniles are currently facing multiple serious charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault involving a motor vehicle, deadly conduct, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, and theft of a firearm.

Prosecutors said additional charges may be added as the investigation continues and more evidence is analyzed.

For residents across Austin, the incidents have left lingering concerns about safety and the unpredictability of the violence.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing and have urged anyone with additional information or video footage from the affected areas to come forward.

As detectives continue to piece together the 28-hour timeline, officials say the focus now is on understanding how the alleged spree began—and preventing similar outbreaks of violence in the future.
